OER: Getting Started with Open Educational Resources (OER)

Abstract: Are you interested in enhancing your teaching materials by incorporating Open Education Resources (OER)? Join Dr. Mark J. Sciuchetti Jr., Associate Professor of Geography, in this engaging workshop designed for faculty members new or returning to OER. This first workshop of the Fall 2024 year for Online@JSU will provide an introduction to the world of open education, offering practical insights into finding, evaluating, and integrating high-quality OER into your courses. Participants will learn about the benefits of OER, including cost savings for students and the flexibility to customize materials to fit specific course needs. This workshop will equip you with the knowledge and tools necessary to start your OER journey. You will also learn about the new Open Education Resource Specialist (OERS) Certificate Program.

Abstract: In this workshop, we will review how to create accessible content in Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Canvas Studio. We will also review how to use various accessibility tools such as Canvas Accessibility Checker and the WAVE browser extension to check your content for accessibility. Learn how to make documents, images, and videos accessible for all students.

Abstract: In this session, we will review the components and functions of the Canvas Gradebook including topics such as manually posting grades, late grading policy set-up, creating a Notes column, exporting the gradebook, applying filters to search for assignments, and more. We will also review the components and functions of the Assignments Index Page including topics such as creating assignment groups, weighted grading, assignment group rules, editing assignment due dates in bulk, and more.

Hands-On Question Generation Using New Quizzes

Abstract:
Learning Objectives
- Create a variety of New Quizzes questions using your subject matter
- Classify which New Quizzes questions are best applicable for you
- Build testing parameters for test security using New Quizzes
This interactive presentation is a hands-on experience learning how to use New Quizzes where we will follow a three-step instructional approach. The first step involves watching short video illustrations of creating each type of New Quizzes question. After each illustration, we will share various ideas across different fields of study where the question may be applicable to use. Following the idea sharing discussion, we will create some of the New Quizzes questions using our own subject matter.
