In June, Michael Walker, business instructor for the Lyons and Company, Inc. Department of Management and Marketing, co-presented at the 2025 regional conference for the Association for Business Communication (ABC) in Bergen, Norway, alongside his wife, Dr. Angela Walker, English professor at Talladega College.

“It was an incredible experience,” Walker said. “That was our first time going to Europe, and the presentation was received very well.” The Walkers traveled to Norway a few days early to take in some of the sights and architecture.”

The topic for the presentation was "Building Rock-Solid Credibility for Managers to Enhance Their Business Communication," which included an audience of academics and scholars from around the world. Such an experience allows Walker to spread the word of Jax State beyond its expected borders.

“I love it,” she said. “I wore my Jax State red. It brings awareness. It brings worldwide attention. Then people see the logo, and it starts a real conversation. They get interested in our town and our culture. I definitely blow the trumpet about Jax State when I get a chance.”

Walker often gives presentations with his wife. “We call ourselves Team Walker,” he said. “We work really well together.”

Their journey had an added benefit. When classes started, Walker actually had a student who was from Bergen, Norway. “What an unexpected surprise,” Walker said. “I’ve got such a diverse group of students from all over the world, and this just gives us another connection.”
