08/21/2025

Houston Cole LibraryThe Jax State Student Success Center is hosting a dual open house on Wednesday, September 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be hosted in the Houston Cole Library on 6th floor in 6A and in the Testing Center on the Ground Floor in room B22.

Transfer and Adult Student Learning Support is the newest office under Learning Support Resources in the Student Success Center. Testing Services has been established but has undergone an overhaul in the recent year. It has received a national certification as a testing center, expanding testing options and increasing access to assistive tech.

Both areas desire to introduce faculty, staff, and others to their office to meet their team and learn about what they do and tour their spaces. Info on each area is outlined below:

Transfer and Adult Student Learning Support (TASLS)

The Office of Transfer and Adult Student Learning Support (TASLS) values transfer students, adult learners, and non-traditional students as an integral part of the Jax State community. Whether you are transferring from another college or returning to school after time away, we will help you find your place at Jax State and provide valuable resources for you as you navigate this environment. From personalized success coaching to academic resources and community connections, our goal is to ensure you have the tools and support you need to thrive—both in and out of the classroom.

Who is an “adult learner”?

Adult learners, frequently referred to as non-traditional students, are often defined by age; however, there are other qualities and characteristics that identify adult learners more clearly. Adult learners may fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • 25 years of age or older
  • Married, widowed, or divorced
  • Have children and/or family members to support
  • Military-affiliated (veteran, active duty, or reservists)
  • Have independent financial aid status
  • Returning to college after an extended break

Our Mission

The Transfer and Adult Student Learning Support office empowers transfer students, adult learners, and non-traditional students to thrive academically, personally, and professionally. Through inclusive programs, personalized success coaching, and strategic partnerships across campus and the community, we provide the resources and support necessary for these students to excel. We are dedicated to fostering an environment of continuous learning and collaboration, guided by best practices in adult education, college student development, and transfer student success. By championing equitable access, we advance the University’s commitment to helping every student achieve their educational and career goals.
