Jacksonville State Recognizes Outstanding Staff at Annual Awards Program

JACKSONVILLE – On Monday, December 16, Jacksonville State University held its Annual Staff Awards Program in Leone Cole Auditorium, celebrating the exceptional contributions and dedicated service of Jax State staff members. The program honored staff who reached service milestones and recognized outstanding individuals with prestigious awards for their commitment to excellence.
During the event, Jax State celebrated employees who achieved significant service milestones, recognizing staff with 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and even 40 years of service to the university. These dedicated individuals embody the university’s values and play an integral role in fostering Jax State's success.
2024 Award Recipients
Excellence in Service Award
The Excellence in Service Award honors a non-exempt staff member who has performed in an exemplary manner, exceeding expectations and furthering the university’s mission.- Nominees:

- Award Winner: James “Jimbo” Decker
Nomination: James “Jimbo” Decker tirelessly carries out a myriad of duties every day. From pest control over the entire campus to personally handling the day-to-day needs of the softball and Kitty Stone gym facilities, he is constantly on the move. Jimbo carries out each task with forethought and attention to detail, always placing the needs of the university first. He has done it with a smile and a positive attitude for over 26 years. No one deserves this award more than he does.
Gamecock Spirit Award
The Gamecock Spirit Award recognizes staff members who make Jax State an exceptional place to work through their actions, words, and deeds.- Nominees:

Nomination: Charlotte consistently puts the needs of her team and the university first, making sure that everyone is supported to the fullest extent. She works tirelessly to create a workplace where every staff member feels valued. Not only does Charlotte solve financial aid issues among students, but she also ensures the staff’s daily processing runs as smoothly as possible. Her actions directly contribute to our team's success and the broader mission of Jacksonville State University.
Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an exempt staff member who has exceeded expectations and fostered the university’s mission.- Nominees:

- Award Winner: Shaun Stancil
Nomination: Shaun works tirelessly to build and improve solutions to increase productivity for the entire campus. He was responsible for configuring and customizing the new portal – single-handedly. Therefore, his work impacts all faculty, staff, and students in a positive way. His creative thinking and programming allow Jax State to overcome many shortcomings of the enterprise systems that we utilize. He is most deserving of the Distinguished Service Award.
Friendliest Campus in the South Award
The Friendliest Campus in the South Award recognizes staff members who demonstrate excellence in customer service and embody the Jax State motto: “The Friendliest Campus in the South.”- Nominees:

Nomination: Roxanne is one of the friendliest people to work with. She brings light to every conversation and is always smiling and friendly. She brings energy to work each day and always makes sure to check on her coworkers. She takes the time to go above and beyond to recognize and thank the people she works with. She makes the office a great place to work.
