Jacksonville, Alabama, native Crissy Werner (‘05) always had a passion for travel and creating meaningful experiences. In collaboration with fellow Gamecock Amanda Cobb, Werner started Southern Belle Travel Company.

“I was helping friends and family with their travel, and I realized there was an opportunity to provide personalized, curated trips that combine luxury, comfort, and unique local experiences,” Werner said. “Southern Belle Travel Company was born out of a desire to help people explore the world without the stress of planning, while feeling genuinely cared for every step of the way.”

Werner said Southern Belle Travel Company’s team of planners – several who are also Jax State alum – focus on personalized, boutique-style travel planning.

“Every trip is tailored to the client’s interests, preferences, and lifestyle,” Werner said. “We combine attention to detail, insider knowledge, and a dedication to hospitality that turns ordinary vacations into unforgettable experiences. We don't want travel to be intimidating but enjoyable for anyone!”

She said hospitality is at the heart of everything they do at Southern Belle Travel Company.

“Our approach is very client-focused,” Werner said. “We listen carefully to our clients’ visions, anticipate their needs, and create travel experiences that feel effortless and special. We treat every traveler like family, making sure they feel supported, informed, and valued throughout their journey. We try to make sure they feel that southern charm with each interaction.”

Werner said clients can expect a seamless experience. From the initial consultation to the final trip, the team at Southern Belle Travel Company provides expert planning, guidance, and ongoing support.

“We handle the details so clients can relax and enjoy their travel, whether it’s a luxury resort stay, a cultural immersion, or a multi-destination adventure. Nothing is too big or too small for you to inquire about,” Werner said. “We’re more than a travel agency; we’re experience curators. Every trip is thoughtfully designed, and we focus on delivering a high level of service and care. We love what we do, and it shows. We celebrate milestones, surprises, and authentic moments that make travel truly memorable.”

Southern Belle Travel Company offers a wide range of trips and specializes in group travel, destination weddings, and custom itineraries to ensure every trip is as unique as the traveler.

When traveling, Werner advises planning ahead but leaving room for spontaneity.

“Research your destinations, but also trust local recommendations. Travel with an open mind and be ready to step outside your comfort zone...it’s often where the most memorable experiences happen,” Werner said. “Support local small businesses that give back to your community - it means so much. And always expect the unexpected in travel- you have to roll with the punches!”

She credits her faith, family, and her love of seeing the world as the driving forces behind her professional accomplishments. “I was raising my little family and wanted something more flexible, so I could be there for the everyday things,” Werner said. “It was a dream come true.”

Werner said the most rewarding aspect is hearing from clients about how a trip planned by Southern Belle Travel Company exceeded expectations.

“Seeing families reconnect, couples celebrate, or friends create lifelong memories reminds me why I started this business in the first place,” Werner said. “Also getting people places they never imagined they would travel to - that's an awesome feeling!”

Werner graduated from Jax State with a degree in public relations and a minor in political science.

“Jax State provided a strong academic foundation and encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and professional growth. The supportive community and opportunities for hands-on experience helped me develop the skills and confidence I needed to launch my own business,” Werner said. “I was drawn to Jax State because of its reputation for a close-knit community and strong programs in public relations. It felt like a place where I could grow both academically and personally. Even though I was a hometown girl, I was able to have a full college experience with JSU and be able to be near my family and church.”

Werner said her time at Jax State was transformative - making lifelong connections, learning from dedicated professors, and discovering her passion for communications and relationship-building.

“Being an alum means carrying forward those values, giving back to the community, and representing the university with pride,” Werner said. “My time as a ZTA, Panhellenic Council, and SGA was such a positive experience and helped me grow into myself and spread my wings.”

When asked what advice she would give students, Werner said to be curious, proactive, and resilient.

“Seek out experiences that challenge you, don’t be afraid to take risks, and build meaningful relationships along the way,” Werner said. “Skills matter, but attitude and adaptability often make the biggest difference in long-term success. Make those connections and keep in touch. Dream Big!”
