The Department of Human Resources (DHR) at Jacksonville State University (JSU) is structured to provide a full array of programs and services to support the University’s mission, vision and values, and our current and potential JSU employees. The DHR is comprised of outstanding professionals with the necessary functional knowledge to support the needs of the University’s human capital, and to provide appropriate counsel and advice to the institution’s leadership while fostering a culture of excellence, empathy, integrity, mutual respect, and the delivery of exceptional service to the JSU community.

The functional areas supported by the JSU HR team include:

Talent Acquisition:
  • supports hiring authorities in the search for faculty, staff, and student employees
  • facilitates recruitment and retention of diverse and talented workforce
  • coordinates the development and execution of recruitment strategies
  • facilitates the pre-boarding of all new employees

Employee Benefits:
  • coordinates of enrollment in the Benefits plans offered and the resolution of issues or concerns
  • manages Leaves offered by the University, including the administration of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
  • facilitates collaborative efforts in support of the retirement of employees
  • facilitates the Employee Assistance (EAP)
  • supports the tuition remission process

Classification and Compensation (Job Classification, Position and Compensation):
  • oversees equitable administration of employee salaries and rewards programs
  • supports accurate job classification and consistent compensation strategies
  • administers the appropriate assignment of job classifications and the development of applicable position descriptions
  • oversees the authorization of salary and title changes
Personnel Records Management:
  • responsible for maintenance, integrity, and confidentiality of the human resources information system and employee records
  • processes all changes to employee records
  • facilitates all employment verification requests for active and separated employees
Employee Training:
  • facilitates onboarding processes for new employee
  • coordinates and facilitates New Employee Orientation to JSU
Performance Management:
  • facilitates employee performance management and feedback administration processes
  • responsible for the identification, creation, implementation, and delivery of appropriate employee development and training opportunities, programs, and processes
Employee Relations Management:
  • provides coaching to employees and managers regarding performance management and policy interpretation
  • facilitates resolution to work-related issues and concerns
  • oversees the University’s discipline processes for non-faculty employees

Diversity & Inclusion:
  • directs provisions of all federal, state, and local employment discrimination laws and statues, including the Equal Opportunity Law, the Civil Rights Act, including but not limited to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the County Sexual Harassment policy
  • promotes and supports diversity outreach initiatives designed to enhance the University’s diversity and to help establish an engaged community
  • provides guidance, support, and strategies in the reporting of work-related complaints, and prompts equitable resolution which can prevent future occurrences of violations
